Frühstück: The Idea

Frühstück: noun; German for breakfast
I see food as a portal to culture and Frühstück celebrates the similarities and
differences of the world’s cultures through the medium of breakfast ingredients.
Most people will break the fast at some point in the morning with a nutritious
meal, and breakfast heaven for one, may be another’s hell.
A coffee for me, a sausage for you; seafood porridge, baked beans, curry,
Vegemite or, dare I say it, a cigarette.
I believe it’s so important that we share what makes our cultures and
experiences unique and remain open to discovery.

Frühstück: The Process
Awarded “Most Uplifting Piece” 2021 Lockdown Collective
In July 2020 I invited my friends and family to let me know their
favourite breakfast item, so that I could incorporate them into a
piece of sculpture, named Fruhstuck.
At the exhibition, I requested viewers to leave a post-it with their
favourite breakfast item and donate the value of their breakfast to
the Hunger Project, to offset the use of real food.
Breakfast truly has the power to unite and divide.
